Sofia - Mount Vitosha

Mount Vitosha was made a park in 1934. Its highest peak is 2290 meters above sea level. Trails begin in the three former villages that have since become suburbs of Sofia: Boyana, Dragalevtsi, and Simeonovo. A cable car takes visitors from Simeonovo to the ski resort at Aleko. Sofians will come up for a day of skiing but the more dedicated tourist may wish to stay in one of the Aleko hotels. Hikers enjoy the cool mountain air in the summer months.
