Archaeology Museum

Facing the President's Mansion on Saborna Street, this museum features prehistoric Thracian finds as well as classical and Middle Age exhibits. There is a special section dedicated to coins.

National Art Gallery and Ethnographic Museum

Formerly the Royal Palace, this building on Battenberg Square serves as the capital city's premier art museum. It is designed to give an overview of Bulgarian art. The upper floor houses the ethnographic collection, with costumes, jewelry, handicrafts and other lifestyle and occupation-related exhibits.

National Museum of Natural History

Just across from the Russian Church we see the museum that houses the nation's nature exhibits. The National Museum, which opened in 1907, has three main areas, zoology, geology and botany. There is a special display of live pythons, crocodiles and iguanas. The Earth and Space section features moon rocks and the skeleton of a dinosaur.
