Sofia Gids

Sofia - introduction

"Sofia, the city that grows but never ages" is the capital and largest city in the Balkan nation, Bulgaria.

There are 1.22 million residents in Europe's highest capital city, on a plateau 550 meters above sea level. Sofia is the hub of Bulgaria, four times as big as the next largest city. This means that travelers to Bulgaria will reach the country through Sofia, unless their only interest is the Black Sea resorts.

One of the first sites a visitor sees in Sofia is Mt. Vitosha, to the south-southwest of the city. This makes Sofia an ideal spot for nature lovers in the summer and skiers in the winter.

Average summer temperatures are 20˚C while the winter average is -2˚C.
